. | If you have ObjectDock or RocketDock, you certainly know the stack docklet from Matonga. Now, if you don’t want any dock and simply use your taskbar, you can have stack view too. Just get StandaloneStack , create a shortcut with the good parameters and voilà, run it to show the stack. StandaloneStack use the Matonga stack library, so you can thank him for making it…. see StandaloneStack page to know more. |

Works very nice! I would like to have an option to set the maximum number of items of the stack.
27 May 2008 at
sorry , i can’t do that, you have to wait a new version from Matonga ( http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=46859 ).
I just use his stack docklet, i can’t add any options.

This is very nice. I have been looking for something like this since I got Vista. Thanks!

Hi!
This is a very usefull tool. Thanks for it.
But one thing is distracting.
The start-Time could be a little bit faster. I have an very fast Computer but when I klick on an icon sometimes I have to wait a little bit to long. Sometimes it is 1,5sec
I know this is short but it is distracting for starting a programm in it.
I think this is when the icons are not in the memory. When I start again it is very fast.
Working with other programs and starting the stack again let me wait.
Could this make a little bit faster for every start?

I totally agree with Kai. It takes too long for the stack to popup (despite that we are talking of a couple of seconds). Once Icons are cached (or something) it works beautiful!
Thanks

yes, you’re right, that’s because there is no running program at all.
So the first time, the .exe is loaded, this take 1-2 seconds, and next, i think the exe is already loaded somewhere in window’s memory and takes less time.
i can’t do anything for this. Because i must use shortcut to run StandaloneStack from taskbar or desktop (you can’t use anything else in the taskbar).
5 November 2008 at
Is it possible to run it as a startup program, hidden in background, decreasing the response time?
5 November 2008 at
yes it’s possible.
But i have to add a parameter like /load (for example) to exit immediatly, but for now, i have no time…
But you can to a trick :
create a shortcut to standaloneStack : c:\standalonestack\StandaloneStack.exe startup
run it, in the config dialog, set “none” ( or whatever you want like toto or titi (a bad folder in fact) ) in the folder field and check “Don’t show open folder”. Click OK.
run it again, nothing should appear.
you can now put this shortcut in the startup folder ( in the start menu )

Hi, I am running this program on vista as administrator, the folder stack seems to work well, but when I clicked an icon in a task stack or a tray stack, I got a “the operating system denied access to the specified file” error message, is there a way around it?
6 November 2008 at
maybe put the stack executables in a simple directory like c:\traystack and c:\taskstack. It seems that your files are in program files ? ( the rights are limited in this directory )
8 December 2008 at
Hi
I totaly agree with Kai too.
The trick can not work. It loads the program only at startup. But it is not in memory all the time. Why I work on my computer and start the stack in “15 minutes” it is no longer in the memory. So I have to wait a few seconds. There must be something that stays every time in the memory. When we start the stack the first time we can wait a few seconds. Thats ok. But after the first start it shut store his files in the memory. So that I can work at this time without waiting.
I love this tool so much. It stores all my shortcuts for folders and programs in a own stack. It would be fantastic when it works without waiting.

Hi! I’ve followed the steps you mentioned in this page & been trying to get the same result as the first picture but no luck
All I get is like the other ones.. Could you please help me?

Hi, i love this plugin, i show it to some friends and i traslated to spanish the instructions of use.
Here you are:
hope this will be usefull for some guys ^_^

BUG!
With the new Version of “Matias Moreno” StackDocklet.dll (1.0.0.359) found here
http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=46859&highlight=standalonestack
the StandaloneStack would not work. When you click on a shortcut it closed directly after opening.
Same with the Version without function for special Folders (1.0.0.371)

Yes, you’re right. I’m waiting for a new compatible version from Matonga. But he has a lot of work…
15 January 2009 at
I can’t get it to work. Could someone please help me?
18 January 2009 at
It would be awesome if Matonga himself would release a standalone stack with all of the latest updates and launch time improvement.
I look forward to any and all updates that come in this project because I really LOVE this thing. This is what I’ve always wanted Windows to come with integrated from stock.
PLEASE DON’T STOP MAKING THIS PROGRAM BETTER. Thxs

The program makes my icons in my quick launch bar extremely large. How do I fix that? Also, if I wanted to uninstall it, what is the process?
31 January 2009 at
icons are big? It only links with a standard icon to the main program. So this could not be a problem with the program. Post Screenshot!
You want to uninstall it? If you have installed this program you did something wrong or got it from other site. Simply delete the files.

I m using this for vista right now and my taskbar is located on the top not on the bottom. When I go to load it it instantly closes; it seems like the positioning of the program when it opens is off the screen, is that a possible reason why it closes right away?
11 February 2009 at
Just add /bottom at the end of the shortcut command line :
see at : http://www.chrisnsoft.com/standalonestack/
../..
Shortcut parameters :
_stack_name_: the name of the stack, each stack must have a different name.
/notaskbar : the stack will not follow the taskbar orientation.
/top or /bottom or /left or /right : force the orientation of the stack

Will there be an update to support Matongas V2 of the Stackdocklet? I don’t know the function of it but I hope it is a little bit more faster.
9 March 2009 at
yes there will be. i’m working on it, but i need time…
12 March 2009 at
thx for that tutorial.
is there a way to start the programs in the stack? it just start exe files, but not the shortcuts in the stack.
19 March 2009 at
I noticed an earlier comment that says ‘check “Don’t show open folder”. Click OK.’ where is this checkbox? I’m looking to remove the open folder icon without leaving a space for it in grid mode, and am having no luck… how can I go about this?
19 March 2009 at
ok, sorry, there was a mistake…
download it again, it should be ok :
http://www.chrisnsoft.com/download/langswitch_lang/en/#standalonestack
( the option is in the docklet option - when you hold CTRL key on program startup )

Hi Chris, got 2 questions. Is there any restrictions as for the number of stacks I can create? I use standalone with CircleDock. Second: I couldnt find instructions on how to use traystack. Is it also compatible with Circledock?
23 March 2009 at
hi,
“Is there any restrictions as for the number of stacks I can create?”
No.
“couldnt find instructions on how to use traystack. Is it also compatible with Circledock?”
traystack works like StandaloneStack (but without th stack name), do a shortcut with /? parameter to see the option (or start menu->run->type :traystack.exe /? )
I don’t know if it compatible with CircleDock, i suppose it works because it’s a standard shortcut.
I’m working on a new version of StandaloneStack, so i will update traystack later.
23 March 2009 at
Thanks for the reply. The issue with StandaloneStack on CircleDock is that the links seem to vanish after a restart. I was thinking this was because of using to many StandaloneStacks… That is, they work fine all of them once or twice, and after restart just only one or two. The rest just give me the Stacks Docklet properties dialog again, as if I hadn’t typed the folder link. I’m using most of them with the grid shape.

Hey Chris!
When you built a new version, could you integrate an option, for example a start parameter (”D:\StandaloneStack.exe” Folder /holdinmemory”) to hold the required tasks for the stack in the memory? This would fix the start delay when pressing the stackicon after a lot of work on the pc.
With this option, after a first start of the stack, the next starts will be faster. And you do not need to install anything in the system because it is realized with a parameter.
4 April 2009 at
yes i will do that for the next version (with stack docklet 2.0 from Matonga), thanks
5 April 2009 at
Hey that would be great.
I think the main part of reducing the performance are the icon files which have to load.
I have two stacks. When I press the first one it take some time to load the stack. After pressing the first one again it opens immediately. At this time the stack.exe and the icons from the first stack are in memory. When I press the second stack it takes some time to load it. The stack.exe was in memory but not the icons from the second stack.
Maybe this could help for realizing this option.

I was wondering if anyone could provide me some assistance. I’m using Vista x64 and programs that are installed in Program Files, not Program Files (x86) don’t execute from the stack. The error that is provided would be “The specified path was not found.” Thanks in advanced.
P.S. Great program, worked wonderfully with my games. Looking forward to the new version.
23 April 2009 at
Maybe this could work with the new version.
@admin
Can you tell us a date on which the new version will be released? I love your program. Its very helpfull. Thank you for the great program.
24 April 2009 at
I am having the same trouble as PC. Shortcut Icons that link to Program Files not Program Files (x86), such as Windows Movie Maker, Windows Snipping Tool, Windows Defender, etc. have the error previously mentioned. “The specified path was not found.”
I really like the ‘on-click’ executable style as it does not waste system resources. Thank you for making this a free utility.

Hi !
I’ve a simple technical question.. which language did u use to program standalone stack ?
Thanks in advanced
4 May 2009 at
with Visual C++ 2008, but remenber that i use the dll developped by Matonga, which is in Delphi.
So the big work is made in Delphi, by Matonga.

18 May 2009 at

Hello I’m vera

I’ve just downloaded StandaloneStack from your web-site. think its a cool tool. Well done!
Unfortunately at the end of download by checking the archive database and the StandaloneStack properties no digital signature-tab is on, also nothing about hash codes for the software.
I use XP SP3 and always choose to download and use on my PCs software digitally signed or at least with hash codes like MD5 and/or SHA1 and/or CRC32, to verify that the program has not been corrupted or tampered during the download.
For now I try your program only on my Virtual machine for this security reason.
So this is the reason why i am asking your support: please can you public or give me (with-mail) hash codes for the original Zip-package or/and the executable (EXE)file inside?
I hope you answer me as soon as possible
Thanks in advance and best regards
vera

This might be completely out of the scope; but is there a way to alter this app to make it display the contents of a text file when it is clicked?
26 October 2009 at
I’m also having the problem, that the stack docklet doesn’t load any 64 Bit applications. Please supply a workaround for this problem as I really want to open Photoshop 64 Bit with Stack Docklet. This bug totally bugs me. Otherwise, great application!

My Firewall (Pc Tools Plus) says that Standalonestack tries to connect with something through ARES (P2P program) when I open Ares. I am blocking it but if I unblock it it will try to connect again and again.
Can you please provide some explanation about this suspicious question?
Thank you
